The Upper Arlington School District is a suburban district in Columbus, Ohio with approximately 6,200 students. The school district needed a student information system that could improve communication between parents and teachers, help students become more accountable for their work, and make student information easier to share amongst shareholders. They settled on the PowerSchool Student Information System, which increases efficiency in reporting scores to the state, makes performance, attendance, and other vital information available via secure web connections, and allows students and parents to be more involved in the students' education with easily updatable progress information. Wallace Community College Selma (WCCS) School of Nursing was facing possible probation from the state board of nursing because of low test scores. After assessing the program, administrators decided better test preparation and test evaluation was necessary to increase scores. Using the ParSYSTEM developed by Scantron, WCCS created more effective tests, more efficiently tracked testing data and increased their board pass rate from 65% to 96% in one year and avoid probation. This study examined how students are effected by the integration of an information system into school management's decisions regarding teaching and learning. It found a noticeable improvement in student achievement, especially in both mathematics and English. Also significant is that while individual achievement rose, the number of failures and drop outs fell. Read more
